I'm not sure about where you are, but in Northern Ireland it has suddenly become freezing! Snow and ice and that chill that's actually painful to walk through! I thought I'd share a few of the things that cheer me up in winter through the dark evenings and icy cold.
1. Do some Christmas baking!
The oven warms the house up and you have something yummy to eat with that cup of tea. Baked goods also make brilliant presents! I baked these for a customer order, but will definitely be baking some for friends and family. Making the decorations for you cupcakes is also great fun, I made the stars, candy canes and snowflakes with regal icing and some glitter.
2. Get some good pjs and slippers!
I was kindly sent these Snuggs Sheepskin slippers from Nature Shop and I have been basically living in them non stop. They can be a bit pricy, but they keep me warm and will last me a long time, instead of paying a £6 for a pair from Primark every year that will fall apart. Also the sole is gripped, which means I don't do silly things like fall down the stairs whilst carrying a cup of tea and end up scalding myself. Let's pretend that never happened. Nature shop also sell snow boots, which if the weather keeps up I may have to invest in. Snow, nice to look at, horrid to walk to work in.
3. Have a hot bath with lots of nice smelling things.
Can't be beaten! I got stupidly overexcited when I found old Herbal Essences in Tesco. Am I the only one that hates their re-branding? And of course, Snow Fairy! American Cream is also amazing and makes my hair smell like milkshake. And any bath bomb that changes the colour of the water is a win in my book, I am a child.
4. Hot drinks.
A must, hot chocolate with whipped cream and marshmallows is my favourite. And a shot of peppermint syrup if I have it! Drinking it in such a pretty cup and saucer helps as well, my Grandparents bought me this one :)
5. Box sets.
I have hundreds of dvds, but none get more watched than my beloved box sets. I have about 5 different shows on the go right now (was the latest Walking Dead not AMAZING?!). There's nothing better than snuggling into bed with a cup of tea and selecting 'play all'.
6. Embrace the stupid hats.
If it keeps my head warm, I am loving it.
I hope you enjoyed this post, and that it's not as cold where you are as it is here! I'm off to cuddle back into my Slanket, Liz Lemon style.
This is a really sweet post :] I'mma go bake some cakes, have a bath, put my slippers on, have a hot drink, and watch some boxsets. And yes, it is as cold here as it seems it is in your neck of the woods! ♥

Love this post, your bath and baking look amazing! Jealous!! :) xx
ReplyDeleteI'm exactly the same with the Herbal Essenes re branding thing! I used to love the red rain forest flower shampoo but since it's all been re-branded I can't find one that I really like. Your posts always inspire me to bake! x

I'm going to pop in to Crabtree and Evelyn tomorrow and get soemthing nice for the bath x
I love baking, these cupcakes look really good. I have a hard time with cupcakes because I have no patience.
ReplyDeleteThose slippers look incredibly comfortable, nothing beats a good pair of slippers to relax around the house in. I miss taking baths and can't wait to take a bath with my lush products. I've never used Snow Fairy or American Cream but they both sound dreamy.
That tea cup and saucer are so (so, so, sooo) cute, I've always wanted to start a teacup collection. Walking Dead was really amazing, I somehow managed to not cry but it was very sad. I love your box sets - Sex and the City, Freaks and Geeks, and The L Word are all some of my favorites. I still haven't watched the last season of The L Word, I know, I need to.
You look adorable in the panda hat. I love this list.

Yay snow fairy! Those cakes look so cute, I love the little decorations you made - I normally make little tree and star shaped shortbread around this time of year, might have to get my rolling pin out!
ReplyDeleteHi
ReplyDeleteCan I ask a cupcake related question?!
I can never ever get my icing right. I have tried loads of different recipes and the icing is a little too 'loose' and sloppy. I can get it in the piping bag and use the star shaped nozzle but it doesn't look like the ones I can buy in the shops where the icing looks a little drier. Do you think I need to use more icing sugar?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
I really enjoyed this post! And we have the same hat, although mine has khaki colourways!
ReplyDeleteLoved this post, I agree with all of these things! Currently snuggled in my bed with a mug of hot chocolate and the whole second series of The Walking Dead to watch!
